About

Hi! My name is Katrina. I’m a former elementary school teacher who left to be a stay at home mom.

Of course, as a mom the teaching hasn’t stopped (it might even be tougher, but it’s definitely worth it).

As a teacher, I worked with students from Kindergarten through Sixth Grade in public schools in both Kansas and New Mexico. This included kids of all learning abilities from special needs to classroom rock stars.

What I learned from my experience is that you have to meet students where they’re at. Kids have so many different learning styles: Kinesthetic, Auditory, Visual, and more. They can handle different levels of pressure, adapt differently, and process at different speeds.

Given all those variables, you can’t approach every kid the same way!

But I bet you already know that.

That might be part of why you’re here.

You want to (or already did) get your child out of the monolithic public school approach!

Do You Know What My Superpower Is?

Now you’re probably thinking, “Why should I listen to a former public school teacher for advice on homeschool? I want my child out of the public school mentality!”

Well, don’t write me off just yet. When I taught public school, I quickly realized that the curricula we were using were not going to get the job done.

So every year I took the curriculum they gave me, chopped it up with a machete, and glued it back together with my own ideas. I dug into every resource and training I could find to break the mold of a traditional classroom and reach every single student as an individual.

The results? Well, not to brag (maybe a little bit to brag), but every year my students were, on average, jumping more than a grade level. I had students two years behind who worked their butts off with me and got back on track!

By approaching my students as individuals, they discovered a passion to learn that drove them to succeed.

I want to help you and your kids find that same passion!

Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or suggestions! I’m hoping to learn and improve myself during this journey with you, too. And if you haven’t done it yet, please consider subscribing to my newsletter to stay up to date with all my posts on this site. I’m giving away my state by state Homeschool Guide for FREE as a thank you!
